Product Reviews:

Rating 5   Excellent in every sense
One of the few good books on a subject where ideological sympathies and emotion have mattered more than scholarship. Excellent in every sense: research. conclusions, readability.

 Rating 5   An excellent book
The Bacardi family, and its well known product, is an excellent lens to understand Cuba and its history.
The family symbolizeed the growth opportunities the country offered.

Rating 3   Cuba Libre: heavy on the Bacardi
I debated between 3 and 4 stars: the book is interestingly-written, and if you want to know a lot about the Bacardi family and company, this is probably a good place to find it (although as another reviewer suggested, there is little here the Bacardi family could find objectionable). If on the other hand Cuba is your real interest, you have to wade through a lot of Bacardi for the information and insights (which are not insignificant) about Cuba. I am new to Cuba reading, so I hope there are better/fuller accounts out there. The book did give me a better perspective on the deep grievance felt by the Cuban exile community toward Fidel Castro.

Rating 5   Excellent! Great Historical Value!
Tom Gjelten's, careful research produced an excellent piece of Cuban history along with the Bacardi's family history. As a Cuban-American I appreciate his good work and, I recommend this book! Congratulations!

Rating 5   A must read for anyone interested in Cuba and/or the Bacardis
This is quite an extraordinary read - very illuminating and amazingly well researched. I couldn't put it down.
